FSMH News and Updates
Fort Saskatchewan Minor Hockey will be hosting a hitting camp for all 2007 and 2008 born players that were registered in Fort Saskatchewan Minor Hockey for the 2020-2021 season.
The camp is intended to provide information and real time experience on the fundaments of checking (both giving and receiving), as well as leveraging on-ice awareness to ensure players are not putting themselves in vulnerable positions.
A total of 3.15 hours of ice time will be provided for a minimal cost of $25. Players will be provided with two sessions on Saturday (one early afternoon and one in the evening) as well as one session on Sunday. Groups will be determined by Covid Protocols and the number of registrations received.
The deadline for registration will be Friday, June 11th.
Recently Fort Saskatchewan Minor Hockey shared a survey with our U9 families asking for their thoughts on joining the EFHL for the upcoming season. While Fort Saskatchewan Minor Hockey was leaning in this direction, so are a majority of our U9 parents with a 65% response in favor. As such, our full FSMH U9 program will join the EFHL for the 2021-2022 season.
Our U9 players will be appropriately tiered, resulting in players being placed on teams with others of similar skill levels. This method is how our teams are formed in FSMH for U11-U18. FSMH believes in players with similar skillset playing with and against each other to provide the best hockey and development experience. Our U9 players will play teams within the EFHL league, both at home in Fort Saskatchewan and away in the greater Edmonton area. Travel times will be minimal, with the furthest travel being approximately 40 mins away (Sherwood Park, St. Albert, Sturgeon County, Leduc, Edm, etc.) and games will not be scheduled earlier than 9am. Games will be played against other teams within the same tier, (ex; Tier 3 will only play other Tier 3 teams). If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out!
Every Kid Every Community - 2017 This Is Your Year
Fort Saskatchewan Minor Hockey is very excited to announce that with the help of Hockey Alberta, Hockey Alberta Foundation, and the Every Kid Every Community Grant we are pleased to roll out the "2017 This Is Your Year Program". We know that in Fort Saskatchewan there are a lot of kids born in 2017 that can not wait to get on the ice and put on that Rangers or Fury jersey, and we also know there is also a lot of new to hockey parents with some apprehension about registration. Your child's first year of hockey can be overwhelming, with registration fees, skates, equipment so this season we are hoping to relieve some of that stress for our U7 Jr parents. Fort Saskatchewan Minor Hockey has been awarded a fund from the Every Kid Every Community Grant, this grant allows us to reduce registration fees by $50.00 for U7 Jr players born in 2017 (max 50 participants). Registration Opens on June 15th and we can't wait to meet all of our new players this season!!
We are EXTREMELY EXCITED to share with you today, that we have officially been accepted into the Edmonton Federation Hockey League for the 2021-2022 season. This will include all of our teams, outside of U7 and those teams that participate in the Hockey Alberta defined AA and AAA leagues. For U9, we have the option of how many teams we would like to participate in the league. We see this as a major win for you, our hockey families, as you’ll see substantial savings in your travel costs (maximum drive to a game would be roughly 45 minutes). Most importantly, we are all getting back time in our weekends by not having to drive a substantial distance that can eat up a full Saturday or Sunday.

FSMH is excited to announce our online 50/50 fundraiser! - Grab your tickets now!
The funds raised from this fundraiser will go directly to purchasing new goalie equipment for FSMH. The U9 & U11 division players share equipment from FSMH. The goalie position rotates around the team as all participants get their first taste of goaltending.
To support this, FSMH Needs to have an inventory of goalie equipment on hand for our participants to use. We need to make sure that equipment is updated, keeping our goalies safe and our players excited to put on the pads.
By purchasing a 50/50 ticket you could be helping with a future big save.
The Chevrolet Good Deeds Cup seeks to inspire young Canadians to do good by transforming the positive values learned through hockey into Good Deeds within their communities. Along with our partners at Hockey Canada, Chevrolet’s goal is to help develop hockey players on and off the ice.
Over the past four years, we have challenged thousands of hockey players across the country, to go out and do Good Deeds in their communities. These teams have made an extraordinary impact, but unfortunately in this pandemic year that simply isn’t possible.
For the fifth year, because your teams cannot go into the community to perform these deeds, Chevrolet is asking that you PITCH GOOD DEED IDEAS that will have a significant impact in your community. Every team that participates has the chance to become this year’s champion and win a $100,000 donation to the registered charity of their choice.
In addition to every team having the chance to become this year’s champion, Chevrolet will reward every idea submitted by donating $50 to the Hockey Canada Foundation Assist Fund up to $75,000, which will provide access to kids in need to this great game we all love.
To ensure the impact is felt far and wide, submissions will be open to U11, U13 & U15 minor hockey teams, registered with Hockey Canada.
