Saskatchewan Rangers Intermediate Sledge
Hockey team wins Gold.
The Fort Sask.
Rangers Sledge hockey team went undefeated at the 6th
annual Western Canada Sledge Hockey Tournament held at the
Edmonton Garrison April 16 – 18. The Sledge Rangers opened the
weekend with a 10-0 win over the Edmonton Edge Friday evening.
They posted a 7-0 win over the Calgary Stingers Saturday as well
as a 1-1 tie with Bruno Saskatchewan T-Birds. This sent the
Sledge Rangers into the Gold medal game in first place.
Bradley Merrill
opened the scoring against Bruno on Sunday in the Gold medal
game with a shot from the blue line. Bruno scored a goal in the
second period to tie up the game going into the third period.
The third period
saw the Rangers pull ahead with two un-answered goals from
Dalton Parent and Landon Bruce to give the Sledge Rangers a 3-1
victory to win the Gold medal.
Captain of the
Sledge Rangers, Cameron Thomas, was presented with the Matt Cook
Memorial trophy on behalf of the team from Matt Cook’s Father.
Shannon Szabados was on hand to pass
out individual medals to the players.
Winning the
tournament was an end to a great season for Sledge Hockey in
Fort Saskatchewan. The Sledge Rangers are looking forward to
next season to defend their gold medal title.
