Fort Saskatchewan Scotiabank Rangers capture Atom Tier 2B
championship
Fort Saskatchewan Scotiabank Rangers capped off a
sensational season-ending
run, by winning the Elk Island Minor Hockey League's
Atom Tier 2B
championship in March.
The Rangers won three consecutive playoff series
over Viking, Bruderheim and
Fort Saskatchewan Atom B4. The best-of-three final
against Fort B4 saw the
Scotiabank Rangers win 5-3 and 6-3.
Along the way, the team also won a late February
tournament in St. Paul,
ending the season by going 10 games without a loss
in tournament and league
play.
Assistant coach Randy Provencal said the Rangers,
who toiled for most of the
season near the bottom of the league standings,
started to gel in early
February.
"The boys really deserve all the success that's come
their way," he said.
"They've worked their tails off to get to this
point, and it was so
satisfying to see the joy on their faces when they
won the championship
series."

What made the title even more bittersweet was the
fact the team started the
season by losing their head coach, Trent Barss, to a
quadding accident.
"This season was dedicated to Trent, and I know he'd
be so proud of what the
boys were able to accomplish," Provencal said,
adding that Barss' sons, Evan
and Spencer, play on the team.
"The team battled through a lot of adversity all
season, and for so long
were on the wrong side of one-goal games. It's
really gratifying to know
they were able to come together and play a complete
team game when it
counted the most." |
